Subject: Welding shop labor

West Central Iowa
Just got a bill from a welding shop where I do some business. Got a 1 1/4" thick X 3" wide X 30" long piece of steel for a drawbar and had them drill a one inch hole in it. Also got a small piece if 1" thick X 2 1/2" wide X 5" long flat steel. Bill for metal was $40.00 and the labor to get me the metal was $60.00. Other shops I know charge a $5 "cut fee" or something like that, but it's hard to believe that he provided $60 worth of value to make two cuts and drill a hole. Maybe I'm out in left field but is this the going rate for that type of "service". What is customary in your area. BTW, when I got there he helped me for around 10 minutes, then it was break time for around around 15 minutes, and it was another 10-15 minutes after break to finish up. I even helped him carry the heavy piece of flat to and from the saw from it's storage location outside.
