Subject: In all honesty.. the age of paving over the farm for another interstate to suburbia

is over. With all apologizes to Ike Eisenhower. Great idea in the 1950's after winning WW2... bad policy today.

Today we need to redevelop our cities... inner cities.. with light rail/shorter commutes. We also could/should take a look at electrifying our mainline railroad arteries... Then we could use cheaper sources of power... coal, wind... etc as well as increase capacity and get some of the long haul loads off the interstates.

Also... possibly by the market or some force... good farmland needs to be preserved... I'm a true Jeffersonian agraian... not everybody likes Ag but... some of us do and this is the country our forefathers came to practice it. We need to start thinking about something other than a gasoline powered car as the solution to every transportation problem. If we linked mass transit our cities footprints would shrink.. heck (can't believe I'm typing this...) Europe makes it work... and you can get around vs stuck on a highway going about 5 mph in traffic.

All the greenies need to find this issue... something they can do some good on.
