Is JD  antifreeze worth the extra money? The JD jug talks of low silicate and anticavitation.   JD is green antifreeze.   I bought  Peak antifreeze.  Both are ethylene glycol,  both are suitable for Aluminum radiators.

JD  is more than 2X  as much but is there anything to be gained by the higher cost?

Peak is 5 year  150,000 mi.   Is peak really any better than store brand?  2 yr 50,000 mile?  or would 1 dollar worth of rust inhibitor make them equal?

I would buy distilled water at 88cents/gallon if it was worth the trouble.   I would love facts instead of opinion and I'm not sure I know where to get facts.

Use the JD stuff. Its made for diesel engines. Cavitation can cost you thousands making the proper antifreeze look cheap. Always use distilled water when mixing. If you buy complete you just pour it in. Always follow the owners manual or dealers recommendation on what to use. They have test strips to test the additive level in your antifreeze. Cheap insurance for good protection. The Peak is probably for automotive use not diesel engines.

My neighbor uses John Deere only antifreeze, changes it every two years. Just had a problem with cavitation in his 4455 this year.

The new cool guard II is rated for 6 years or 6000 hours of use.

Always figured coolant fluid the least serviced fluid in engine. I was taught to be quite fussy about routine changing, been on a 5 year rotation using JD premixed fluids only. probably costs more, but over 5 years, ?? 2 tractors from the 1960's and a 1977 4430, haven't had any issues yet, guess 4430's were noted for that cavitaion, might happen tomorrow, but engine has never been touched.

Diesel-rated antifreeze has nitrites in it for cavitation erosion resistance. Also, antifreeze sold for aluminum radiators is NOT OK for diesel engines.

If you don't want to buy the JD stuff, go to a truck shop and get some Fleetguard Complete, or similar. DON'T use automotive antifreeze in a diesel engine!

Not trying to start anything but I've used every brand antifreeze on the market for 45 years and never had a problem in my trucks , tractors or combines. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Many guys cut corners on antifreeze. I believe it it is just as important ans quality engine oil. I have been using the Deere Yellow ELC coolant. I am now using cenex brand ELC coolant, not because its cheaper, but is more convenient and I can get it in a barrel rather than jugs. Check out my post from a month ago. I changed my coolant in my 8220 that had 3,800 hours on it and 9 years on the coolant. I have never seen and engine without scale and rust in it. All I know is that after seeing that, this guy does not use peak antifreeze anymore.
