Farmersburg Blast
( Air Date: 7/29/2006 )
Business went through the roof at one Farmersburg company Friday...literally!

There was an explosion at the Trueblood Oil Company in a new building that`s only been open for two months.

No one was injured..

An employee says that they were filling a tank with hydraulic oil for the first time.

When it was two-thirds full the tank exploded and blew a hole in the building`s roof.

Apparently it wasn`t vented properly and that triggered the accident.

Happened in Farmersburg, Indiana, about 35 miles from where I live.

Above is a copy-paste from the website in the link below.  http://www.wtwo.com/news/default.asp?mode=shownews&id=6721

I was hoping to find a picture like shown on the news report, but it was not available.  Brand new shed, never used, the whole upper side blew out next to the rafters, pink insulation was hanging down, and sheet metal was curled down from the eves.  Hole about the size of a 4x8 sheet of plywood.  They didn't give details of how they were filling the tank, I suspect it was with air pressure, but the same thing could have happened if they were pumping it up and the tank wasn't vented.

Take precautions, this was an oil company, inplying they had handled bulk oil in the past, and were professionals.
