My trailers are a 24' steel hotshot built with elecro. gav. steel in it. It pulls the same as my 18' featherlite Alum. Both are V-noses. I'm thinking they both have 7,000 lb. axles on them. I thought 14 ply tires on the 24'. Yes you are correct, pulling unloaded is harder on a trailer than pulling loaded. You need to spec. axles to your load. If you put heavy load axles under a trailer and only haul week old calves in it. It will self desruct it self over time. If you are going to keep trailer for a long time 10-15 or more years I would go with Alum.
