Not sure what you mean by a universal display. If you are talking about an Insight or one of the other multipurpose displays, yes, it will output the NMEA stringss of gps data that are required for position information to make maps. The Outbacks all have industry standard 9 pin connectors for gps data output. You would need the appropriate serial cable to go from the Outback to the display.
