Had the same thing on my 2000 model. Acted like it was running out of fuel. but mine would only go about a mile then had to sit about 20 min. before it would re-start.

On the front of motor / paasenger side there's couple wires that go into a rubber plug thats held in with the timeing indacator bracket thats over the balancer . Think there's just one short 10mm bolt to take out. Any way I replaced it and been running fine since!
