Doing something similar on our planter using a Top Con X20 controller. The X20 can control 30 boom sections. We have configured the Tru Counts with 12 sections of 3 rows each and starter fertilizer with 12 sections of 3 rows each. We are using Banjo electric ball valves for on/off control of the starter fertilizer.

We have a refuge seed box on the planter serving the middle 4 rows of each side of the planter. We set the planter up this way hoping to get adequate corn borer control from pollen shed. Smart Box units are mounted on each of these 8 rows for root worm control.

What we have not figured out how to do is control the Smart Box units using GPS. We will still need to turn them on and off using the raise/lower switch, the master on/off switch or the A/B section switches.

The X20 is also controlling two Micro-Trac variable speed hyd motors so we can use GPS as applied maps to utilize the variable rate population function. We see two major uses of this function. First, to reduce population on non-irrigated corners or eventually reduce population on poorer soil areas of fields and secondly to increase the soybean population in areas that are prone to iron chlorosis deficiency.
