Subject: RE: bicycles

Well, the level of quality that you are going to get at wal mart is probably the lowest possible. If you want a quality bike, you need to go to the local bike shop and pay more money. Look for brands lik Trek, GT, Cannondale, Giant, Diamondback, etc. You will pay more, but the components will be much better.

Bikes have become much more technical since you were a kid. The frames are made out of aluminum, alloys, and carbon fiber. They are designed to be lightweight for the serious bikers. Yes, you do saccrifice some durability that you would get with the old cast iron Huffy. Rims are the same way. They are designed to be lightweight, which means less metal.

Find a reputable bike shop, and buy your kid a quality bike....or find one used.
