Ron, the rates that you are talking about are guidelines that the U of I put in place years ago. These amounts were based on the farmer "broadcasting" his fertilizer on and are accurate for that senario. When the fert is placed in a band near the corn plants roots, the efficency is much greater, thus requiring less npk to grow the same crop. jeff
