I don't think you'll ever see a wireless steering system, just from the liability standpoint. We're talking about steering here, not just some normal data connection.

From the design side, I can set up a wired system, and once it is working, it is almost guaranteed to stay working. With wireless, you always run some risk of interference from other wireless devices such as CBs, cell phones, or another machine 30' away using the same wireless system.

As a general rule n the world of computers and networks, if you can run a cable to it, run a cable. Use wireless ONLY when you need the mobility.

I do think it would be good if the cables were a bit more standardized though.
