D6-H dozer getting hot

Subject: D6-H dozer getting hot


Northeast Kansas Near Topeka		My dozer started to overheat. Changed the stat today. It didn't cure the problem. Anti freeze is clean,no rust.Not loosing water. No oil in cooling system. No water in oil as best I can tell. I have had this problem before on hot days ( upper 90 degree weather and pushing terraces up ). It usually would cool down with fast idle and no load for a few minutes. Not today tho. Was running normal the last few days in about the same ambient temp. Radiator ,while not blown out in the past week doesn't look excessively dirty. Also we have been pushing damp soil ,not fine dusty plug everything type work.
Could the impellor be loose on the shaft .
Appreciate your input. Stumped here

Georgetown Tx		I think I would have started with the easiest first , blow the radiator out! I know you said it was cleaned a week ago, ours in hard days we clean daily ,also are you doing it yourself because you could have someone who's saying they are but it actually to lazy to open everything up and do it correctly . One other thing is to make sure you have a big enough compressor to actually do some good ! Be willing to bet a good cleaning and your back running , unless one other thing ,are the fan belts loose?

You maybe should put a manual gauge on to check the temp. We have a R and our electric gauge in the cluster went bad, it would read high and set the red light flashing.

Fan belts bottoming in the grooves?  But,,,,,,, I'm putting my money on the radiator is dirtier than you think, and a good cleaning is all you need.  On the D7R's we had in Africa we had to clean the radiators everyday, and wash them whenever they were at the shop.

Just to let you know, there were some problems with loose water pump impellers, on 3306 engines.

 I believe they had phenolic impellers(plastic). I believe, they when back to cast iron impellers, but you may want to ask the CAT parts dept. about that.

Is the convertor temp rising also?Which one is coming up first the engine or convertor temp?There is a chance that you might be having convertor issues which is making the engine temp rise.

West Tennessee		Our D6M does that (get's hot) and it pretty well has to have the radiator cleaned every day. No less than every other day.

Had a cat tech come out. In less than 5 minutes he found the impellor on the water pump was loose. Said it is pretty common on 3306 Cats.
