common arrangement here in NZ, used to drive a 8x4 tipper myself, pulling a 3 axle trailer, only prob is when you start messin round in mud, ya gotta have ya wits about ya, a 6x4 is often better in the mud

seeing a lot more 8x4 tractor units round, i helped with a converted sterling with a merc engine not long ago, was put into work on side loaders for containers, the axle allowed the unit to run 52 tonnes (44 is the std limit in NZ)

like the 8x4 for its manuvourability..........semis drag ass in the corners
