Subject: Re: 9510 Straw Walker Losses

Centre county Pennsylvania, USA
We run a 9510 in wheat and have found that walker loss can be reduced significantly if you follow John's experience based advice AND don't try to combine when straw is tough (wet). Wet straw is biggest cause of walker loss here, we call it a day when straw toughens in the evening, loss monitor tells us when to stop cutting, but sometimes we push the envelope, a little.

Walker machines are in great demand for wheat cutting here, high quality straw is a significant part of sales on almost every acre of wheat in this area. Some of the more successful local wheat/straw farmers plant at very high rate (2x normal rate) to improve straw yield.
