Walker losses are amost always the limiting factor for any walker combine. That is one of the reasons most combines are now rotaries or have extra beaters and concaves like the Claas and NH CX series. One of the things you can do to help is to make sure you are getting maximum separation at the cylinder/beaters/concaves to lessen the amount of grain that makes it to the walkers.
I think Kuchar's walkers kickers are for stirring up corn shucks.
