they are like tanks and trains....gallons per mile....

I would guess around 4-6 sounds like what out 427 does....and that is kind of what the late 60s 855 cummins does..of course volume hauled per mile is different....

with a gas it is easy to drive put it in gear and mash the petal to the floor....shift and mash it to the floor....then tun off the key on the chevy and the pretend you have a diesel when the engine won't turn off..
