| I agree. WE use to own a single axle truck with a 366 /4spd w 2spd rear. Truck had a 14' bed wit a loaded capacity around 400bu of corn. The motor handled that size well but would be short of power with a bigger payload & pulling a pup takes more power than if the load was on the truck itself.
Curremtly we have an IH 1700 w/ 404 engine, 5spd & 2spd rear & 15' bed that holds around 425bu of corn fully loaded that we use on when we have a jag left in a field or bin that won't go on one of the semis. Currently we have a 1600 gal water tank on it & also pull a 1,000 gal water tank at times. The combined load with both tanks full of water is roughly equal to a full load of grain. The engine will handle the load sufficiently when it's grain but is short of power when hauling both tanks full of water. | |
