I used to thaw pipes with welder. Not anymore. A buddy of mine had one of those deals where the welder current got into the wiring of houses. One side of welder got into the neutral and one side got into ground circuit. 300 amps from welder into #12 wire inside house walls isn't good. It is the 3rd prong in outlets that changed things. When you hook to a pipe, start welder, engine labors -- you have contact. Except, you have no idea what path the electricity is taking.
