Been a long time, but if it has a rock shaft, you can add an scv.

Although I am not for certain, I think that 1947 was when scvs became available. I think a 1946 would have had power lift only(rock shaft).

Our neighbor had a 46G and if I remember right it had the SCV, it was styled, and I thought it was cool to have them hyd hoses going to the corn chopper to raise the head up, we didn't have any hyd on our tractors, but dad soon changed that, the Oliver 88 got the hyd unit to use on plow and disc, probably 1952-53, been a long time.

It may or may not. It might have the old Power Lift which an SCV could be added to as Buster said.

What the heck is SCV? Been a long time and we used to have a few "A" around, but I don't know what a SCV is.

SCV is Selective Control Valve or hydraulic remotes and hookups.

OK our "A" were too old for that. Our "A" were all square fronts. We did have a "G" that had the styled hood, but still did not have SCV.

Thanks!

My mistake: Dad added something to one or more of the "A"'s. One of them had a new backend and a lever to the LH Side. At least one of them had foot pedals toward back that ran the Rockshaft(?).

The 1946 A, if it came from the factory, with a rockshaft, would have been a powerlift.  No power beyond for a remote cylinder, to use on a pull -type implement.  Most implements had a mechanical lift at that time, that worked on the wheels of the implement.  In 1947, John Deere came with a Power Trol, which supplied the pump and the hydraulics for the rockshaft, for front mount cultivators.  For the implement to have a remote cylinder lift, you had to switch the ends in the Power Trol, which routed the oil to the remote cylinder, for lifting the implement.  When the remote cylinder was being used, the rockshaft was inoperable, because the oil was routed to the remote cylinder.  The 1946 could have been updated with the Power Trol, because it would fit on any tractor that had a power lift.

This is the Power Lift and not The Power Trol.

My 1946 Model A has a Baker Box which provides an outlet with two hose hookups, but only one-way hydraulic flow. It bolts between the back cover and the tractor and has a lever to the LH side of the seat. From what I understand, the Baker Box was somewhat common back then because I know an older farmer who remembers his dad having one on an A when he was a kid.

I once owned a 1940 hand crank JD B that had the baker box sandwiched in on the back between the rockshaft control valve and the housing. It would give you 2 way hydraulics with 2 outlets but, only when then clutch was forward and engaged. No live power anytime the engine was running. It worked OK on smaller cylinders but you lack the hydraulic reservoir for a larger one way app like a wagon hoist or loader unless you add more oil capacity. I think a lot of the older ones were converted to have hydraulic outlets. My 1949 JD A had it originally from the factory but, you don't get "live" all the time hyd power unless you put pump behind the distributor and reservoir, as mentioned, or get a newer 50,60,70 series tractor.

John Deere made available a hydraulic pump which mounted behind the magneto which gave you live hydraulics,
we had to plumb it all plus build an oil tank and mount a selective control valve.
