Drenching or giving paste is a lot more work than injectable or pour-on's! Cows react a lot worse to anything you do to their head. Unfortunately the white (benzimadazole) wormers like Panacur/Safegard or Valbazen are not available in pour-ons, so mixing in feed or blocks are the only way other than just getting in their face and "gettin er done". A "drench hook" is easier than just using the dosing gun with a short tube and gives you some distance when dealing with cattle with horns.

Being in Florida and purchasing cows from that area, you may be dealing with liver flukes which require Chlorsulon to remove. Same folks that make Ivomec make Chlorsulon. Don't have much experience with flukes here, but they are a possiblity where cattle graze marshy areas that may have snails. The snails are the intermediate host for the flukes.

Like Pawpaw says, taking some fecals, especially on cows that have been dewormed already a couple weeks before will tell you something about how well your deworming program is working and may pick up flukes. If you have something die, flukes and their damage are easily visible by cutting slicing the liver.
