I am not sure anybody knows what is going on. DougS is correct. It is worth the money for the upgraded antenna. The location North or South has nothing to do with the GPS sats like Ed is talking about. it is dealing with the WAAS sats which are "stationary" to your current position. They don't move. They are geo-synchronized and to us they are in the same place always. The patch antennae work fine, but the helix generally gets you better reception and therefore should get you a better quality signal. They get better reception because of the way they are made. I too believe that with precision ag equipment it is a good general rule of thumb that you get what you pay for.
