Subject: Row Cleaners in first year no-til?

East Palestine, Ohio (Columbiana Co.)
Have a neighbor that did 1st year no-til here with an old 7000 JD 12 row. Pretty remarkable (to me) what these things will plant thru and produce a stand if you burn down in fall or early pre-plant.
Later plant and burn a very different story. Hard to believe it was the same equipment. I thought maybe some sort of row cleaner would of made a difference as anywhere you put the seed in actual dirt, you can pretty much count on the corn coming up. This was in heavy first year sod, with waist high weeds and grass. Neighbor doubted there is any trash wheel that could handle these conditions, with nightmare visions of wheels plugged and wrapped tightly every 5-10'. This is on rented ground that didn't get the go-ahead on til after mid-May, so the early burn-downtime was already gone. Is there something out there that will handle these conditions?
