Subject: Re: Yield monitor accuracy try #2 - averaging

Driftless SW Wisconsin
Over many loads, changes in friction may average out as the long term data above shows.

However to compare any two hybrids, loads, test plots etc with an impact type yield monitor in different conditions you should recalibrate.

Even though changes in friction etc average out and the yield monitor seems accurate over a season, the weigh wagon is best in this type of load to load comparison especially if there are possibly changes in friction or ??

There may be big differences in load to load comparisons between a non recalibrated yield monitor and a weigh wagon. I don't think we should jump to the conclusion that it is necessarily seed company tampering. This can be due to differences in moisture level between hybrids affecting the coefficient of friction on the yield monitor plate. jmho & experience.
