Central NE | Sounds like some great experiments. Like you said, long term soil health is hard to measure in one year, but is easy to measure 50 years later when someone takes down a fence and farms the pasture with the rest of the farm and finds out unhealthy soil cost them 40% or more yield.
Gabe Brown has documented the synergistic effect of a cover crop coctail in a drought. It defies explination, but the pictures are there to prove the moisture efficientcy of a coctail vs. a monoculture crop.
