Southern MN | I still see a couple farms with ear corn in cribs or temporary cribs made out of snow fence. I would guess they are closer to 50 acre corn farmers than 500. I couldn't imagine storing 500 acres of ear corn, or how many rats that would feed.
I'll also say that a farmer with 100 acres of corn probably doesn't have any more time than a farmer with 1000 acres of corn. The farmer with fewer acres is more than likely just more diversified with livestock or off farm job, so when its time to harvest corn the farmer with fewer acres is under similar time constraints as a farmer with more acres. | |
