What's at fault is your clutch brake. Your clutch adjustment may or may not be in need of adjustment.

Use the linkage to adjust clutch brake, I use a 3/8" bolt head (9/16") for the clearance of the brake. This has to be adjusted first. THEN you can adjust free play. Just adjusting the free play will do nothing for your brake adjustment.
