Subject: RE: Cover crops

Jules---I'm located at Laddonia(about 15mi northeast of Mexico in Audrain Co). I can get it locally from an organic producer. I use a variety called Aristook(hope that's spelled right). It matures earlier than any winter wheat grown around here(mid june), so I grow my own seed and double crop beans after I harvest it. A friend of mine got another variety from a local coop and it didn't ripen til the first week of july. I know another person locally that used the ryegrass from Oregon on several hundred acres, but quit and went to cereal rye because the ryegrass had to be drilled to get the stand he wanted. I think ryegrass may be better in front of corn though because of no auxins released affecting corn growth. Some people do plant corn after cereal rye with good success---I just haven't tried it.
