Centre county Pennsylvania, USA | Our static tests and multi-year on-farm experience agrees with that. Low cost (Garmin) DGPS receivers with WAAS are not satisfactory for any auto-steered field operations. We use high quality (Trimble) DGPS receivers with WAAS for all auto-steered field operations. To illustrate why that's true, I've attached (again) some of those scatter plots you mentioned. They confirm the true scatter (no static filter) numbers you recalled for intervals of 4 hours or greater and illustrate why high quality DGPS receivers are needed if folks want to use WAAS as their (free) correction service for field operations. We have used the low cost Garmin DGPS receivers with WAAS for satisfactory yield mapping with wide platform combines. Static accuracy is not as critical for that case because the platform harvests a wide swath but that yield is logged and mapped as single point DGPS fixes in latitude and longitude. Current yield monitoring technology is inherently low resolution, good match for low accuracy Garmin w WAAS DGPS logging/mapping.
