We always run the 411 so that it leaves the swath as wide as possible. I do not know about alfalfa, but the wide swath works in grass, millet, and sudan. Unless it is very hot and dry, the bottom is as green a few days after it is cut as it was when it way cut. It is definitely the sun that cures around here.
