Driftless SW Wisconsin | Years ago we actually measured a 25 bu acre reduction in yield in the one row between duals, w/traffic on both sides of the corn plant, compared to yield from rows on the outside with no traffic on either side of the corn plant. I believe these were 18.4's. Within the range of possibile tire pressures without destroying the tire, I don't think lowering the tire pressure will help very much.
As you are seeing, the reduced yield on the pinch rows can be a very obvious effect of compaction. This is one reason I am so enthusiastic about strip till. In a controlled traffic strip till system you can really reduce the effects of this one-season tire traffic-induced compaction. This is not related to prior "plow pans" but just heavy tire traffic. jmho.
