Subject: Wiring a fan switch in a 98 international 9200

Truck has a C12 engine. Wanting to add a fan switch to turn engine fan on manually but also keeping the automatic fan controls working. I wired it the cab switch up to a 12 volt source and ran that 12 volt wire down to the red wire that goes into the actuator that sends air to the clutch. I figured that this would work but it doesn't. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? If I unhook this harness the fan will run. Also some pics of what I did so far

Need to break contact for fan to run ,Its a fail safe system .

Thats why it runs with fan harness unplugged ,Should be a 2 wire switch somewhere ,But im not experenced on Cat .

Find the fan switch fuse in the fuse block ,It might be easier to break contact there ,All the wires inside cab .

If fan turns on when fuse is pulled ,its the right one .

The fan needs 12 power to turn the fan OFF. In other words, you need to interrupt the power to the fan circuit to turn it on. You simply splice the cab switch in series with the existing circuit, as shown in the wire diagram.

See attached wire diagram for your truck. Sorry about the clarity, it's the best I can do. It appears from the diagram that a manual fan override switch was optional.

Between pins M and N of the connector shown. The connector should be under the dash on the firewall. The wires coming out of pins M and N should be 16 gauge, tan in color, have 23A stamped on it, and should be a simple loop. If you currently do not have a manual fan switch installed, this should be the jumper wire between those two pins as shown in the first diagram I sent you.

Simply cut the wire in half, wire up a simple switch between them, and you should be good to go.

easy way would be to put a switch on that red wire going to the clutch then on would be auto and off would be on. The used truck we got with a 3406e had a switch put on the ground wire, I think it is probably better to put it on the hot side though.
