NW Washington | The big problem with large square bales in the humid midwest is that it is often difficult to get the hay dry enough to keep inside of that big 4x4 or 3x4 bale. Baler initial cost is another issue for a lot of folks. Making hay in the on the irrigated western high desert is a different ballgame than in the cornbelt. This link expands on the moisture problem.
