Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
I don't have the #'s but I can tell you out here on the Plains there is some decent tillable land in CRP. ALTHOUGH, There is quite a bit of hillsides and etc. that would be tough to farm and probably won't be tore out. In my immediate area, I doubt if 1/3rd of the CRP will be farmed again. Again, lots of hillsides and nooks that would be tough to farm with todays larger equipment.
On the CRP around here yields would be 50 to 75% compared to the rest of the field. So marginal at best. Another reason I don't see a lot of CRP tilled again.
If there is an early release to the CRP, I would think prices would drop about as bad as if an embargoe was announced. All it will take to really damage this run up in prices is a policy change. And that would do it.
