| My understanding of the current state of cellulosic ethanol (i.e., switchgrass, corncobs, etc.) is we are several years away from it becoming economically feasible. 10 yrs is about what I've read. I'd guess 5 years at least.
Until then it's corn and I believe, as time passes, they are able to make more and more ethanol out of a bushel of corn.
Too the seed companies are going to make corn more and more ethanol productive via genetics.
Sugarcane can be grown only in a small area of our country. It is significantly more ethanol productive but we can't raise much of it.
Through scientists and genetics sugarcane might one day be grown over a larger area of the country.
