Subject: RE: Deere 5300--- good

Pittsburg, Kansas

We have had good luck with all our 5000 series tractors. 5400, 5300, 5500, 5520 and 5303. Still have the last three. The standard transmissions have dry clutches which a good operator can make last a long time - a not so good operator can burn one up on a loader application if abused. We have had power reversers on three of the tractors (wet clutches) and dry clutch on the other two. No problems with any of them but a dry clutch will not last as long if you slip it a lot.

The price may or may not be good depending on how it is equipped. If it has the standard transmission (not schronized), no outlets and no other options you can buy a brand new 5303 for about that price (it is a basic tractor), then you would have to add the price of a loader. If it has a TSS (top shaft schyrnco) transmission or better yet a power reverser, remote outlets, extendable lower 3 pt links, creeper transmission or some other option that is valuable to you the price might be decent. Options can add up. If it is a bare bones tractor I would go with a new 5303 at 5 more horsepower and a turbo to boot and add a new loader for another 3000 or so..

John
