There would be different valves for different tractors, you are correct. You and your dealer would have to come up with what settings to use in a "home made" platform. That can be done without too much work usually.
older tractors pose more of a problem to me when the steering system needs a lot of repait to remian constant. If there is some slop in the steering mechanics it can make getting it calibrated accurately difficult.
