Subject: RE: 9760 STS

Farmers who were use to keeping their 77 or 8820's and 95 or 9600 and 10's for up to 10 or so years repectively before trading are finding that the 50 and 60 series combines simply won't withstand the years of operation that their previous combines of the 80's through late 90's did. the STS is a more complex machine but, that isn't the issue. The issue is the cost reduction in these new combines that limits their durability and shortens their lifespan. For example, the next time at your local Deere dealer, go up and bang on the side of the cleaning system housing of a 9600 and then bang on the same of an STS and see which is more stout! We went from 8820's to 9600's to 9610's each around the 7 to 8 year interval and towards the halfway point of each we may have been at an avg. of $5 grand, maybe $7 on a bad year. But, our STS has been nearly $9+ grand every year we've owned it. We are now lookin for another brand. The STS has been more of a gimmick than anything.
