Central Kansas | The other posts offer sound advice...but why would JD make the 328 and 338 series? Some applications do not require the cost and heavy duty design of the 348 (I have two of these). A small acreage would be well served with one of the lighter model Deere balers. For the most part, they have narrower pickups, fewer pickup bars, thus teeth, and operate at fewer number of strokes per minute. They are the nuts for making smaller bales suitable for the horse crowd...especially women. They will bale up a nice looking, tight bale with lots less hay in the windrow....which allows you to cut with a 7-9' machine, rake that swath, and bale a decent bale out of it. With the larger capacity balers....there would not be enough hay in the windrow and you will make bananna bales and fight that sucker every time you bale.
So....these guys are right, for big time haying the 348 will get the job done, but for smaller operations, and/or smaller bales, these lighter duty balers work very well. Like most everything in agri-business, there is NO ONE ANSWER that fits every situation. Just another viewpoint. | |
