Subject: RE: Storm Damage....photos from near Kankakee (NE IL)

Chebanse, IL.....

This was same storm time as Brians. I took these photos on 6/27/06, hail was 6/25/06. These photos are not from our fields, but they were located about 5 mis SW of Kankakee, IL. I don't post these to draw sympathy for anyone, nor to diminish anyone else's personal losses. I'm just showing severe hail damage if you haven't seen it lately. Not pretty. Always makes you reconsider your hail insurance coverage when you see this.

Not sure of entire damage area, several sections just judging from the windshield. Of course, there are varying degrees of damage, depending on locale. The beans pictured here look to me like they're going to be done. Some have no stems left at all. One corn field shown may recover-but the other has no leaves & many-many broken stalks. Corn was probably knee to waist high before storm. The final picture is brome grass in a road ditch. It was probably waist high before.

Photo below show many-many broken stalks, as well as total defoliation.

Photo below makes it appear that population may have been low. I'll assure you it wasn't

Soybeans in 30" rows

Closeup of same bean field. Few if any remaining branches.

Brome grass in road ditch looks like it was mowed....it was-by the hail.
