Subject: Yet another question,

Nevada, Iowa
how many times have you given a shot or two to a three bolt flange type bearing only to see grease exit almost immediately from the area between the flange and the outer bearing race or between the flange halves? I get this feeling that if I am not seeing it, it must be happening inside where I can't see it. You have a 100 hour bearing on an 1 1/2 or bigger shaft, it's 20 degrees outside and on the second pump you see some grease, and we're supposed to believe that we have pushed enough grease through a pencil lead hole in the outer race to hold that bearing for another week? Some of these "greasable bearings" have to be an exercise in futility. Having griped enough, we do have very few failures with bearings but I do feel that they are often running on the grease they came with from the factory.
