Subject: RE: Got a big question on lubing intervals

I find the ones that make the biggest mess around the "seal?" are the ones that need the most grease. They usually seem to be only shielded, or shield and a single lip seal.

I dont know how the manufacturers come up with their intervals, but I seem to go more by feel than anything. I usually seem to grease, or change oil at half the time as the manufacturer suggests. I noticed I fall towards the "if it says 50hours, I grease it daily, or 10 hours" catagory.

Since the harvest climate around my area is for the most part dry and warm, I try not to wash the machines with the most bearings, i.,e., harvest equipment. I blow them off with a leaf blower. It has worked out very well. If I do have to wash a machine for any reason, like a hydraulic hose blew or something, I make extra effort to not power water toward the bearings.

Lately though, I've been finding more and more machines with specific oils and greases required. Those I do pay attention to.
