| In our area most wheat is planted for a cover crop or grazing. Some is green chopped for dairies and some is delivered as seed wheat. The new seed laws allow all newer varieties be sold only as a classified seed. Elevators that used to be source of bin run vns seed suitable for cover crop are being sued because some of the seed in a bin run is bound to be seed that can only be sold as classified. Therefore, they have chosen to get out of sales altogether. Elevators that receive wheat won't sell to farmers or even let you get your wheat back out. They are afraid to even store and sell older non-protected varieties because any seed cross contamination leaves them liable. Seed companies have been suing if they can find their seed in a mix.
The result is everyone has to find a way to store enough seed for himself but no one else. Just need a way to figure a fair price for unused bins around the area.
