Subject: RE: Nasty Weather ?

Our farm is located on the county line between Van Wert and Allen counties in Ohio. Just heard on the news that Van Wert had 3 confirmed tornadoes and Allen county 4 confirmed, so needless to say yesterday was interesting. No major damage at the farm (lost a walnut tree) .... neighbor about 3/4 mile away had a brand new pole barn end up about 200 yards into the field, just got back from taking a drive and its a pile of tin. Lots of older barns and buildings down, and lots of new roofs going on houses today. Stretches of road where one power pole after another is snapped off. Ended up with about .8" of rain in the gage (although most of it blew sideways) ... really wasn't as much water as there could have been (don't see much water standing in this immediate area). Storm really came up fast though, and the temp must have dropped about 25 degrees in about that many minutes. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't heard of any fatalities in northwest Ohio because of it.

Dad just commented earlier this week that we had the best looking corn he can remember ... guess maybe it was too good. See quite a bit of corn in this area with stalks snapped off at the ground .and a lot with some leaf shredding ... seems like there will be a few good stalks standing perfectly well, then a couple snapped off flat at the ground.

Could have been a lot worse though.
