Galahad, Alberta | The hitch point is high so that there is weight transfer from the stuck object to the tractor when the tow strap is tightened, giving the tractor more traction, and also giving the front end of the object some lift out of the muck/mud/muskeg/etc. The receiver at the bottom is just like what you would have on the back of a truck, to pull things like a pick-up with a tow hitch on the front, or a ballhitch to pull trailers, bunkhouses, etc. Also, when the chain breaks, that nice big chunk of plate steel stops the hook from coming through the back window of the cab and taking your head off.
