Subject: Re: hydraulic bale tension

Leesburg, Ohio
We have hydro tension on our 575, and think it does help with consistency. Not sure what the cost is now, but I probably wouldn't get a baler without it. That said, the most important factors in consistent bale length for us has been making a consistent, uniform windrow, and driving at a steady, SLOW speed...the slower the speed, the smaller the flakes, the less variation in length. We don't always follow our own advice when clouds are coming, but we do notice the results. We want to change rakes to make better windrows...now use dual NH rolabar rakes. Have used neighbor's rotary rakes (both dual and single rotor), and always get a much nicer bale from those windrows.
