How important ISO 11783 standard to you? When you buy a piece of new equipment do ask of it is ISO 11783 compatible?

I don't buy much new equipment but I wouldn't buy a tractor that couldn't be hook on to my current implements, or a new implement that I couldn't hook up to the tractor I have. Why should precision ag be any different. Agco and Dicky-John have been leader in an open ISO 11783 standard. Ted Macy showing a map of fuel usage was good example of what can be done with an open standard. If you were to buy a new cat tractor you would have several options for auto-steer. Most after market companies can hook into the wire harness, saving the cost of adding a hydraulic valve.

Can you take a White planter and hook it up to Trimble's FMD? What about to an Agleader Insight? Has anybody done it? What about the other way around could you hook up a John Deere planter to the Agco display? What about spray controllers. Does any body use a can bus system? How do you like it?
