tim4870 - 12/5/2012 11:43 I went to the township meeting last night. Learned that the township is storing the road grader and dump truck with snow plow in a farmers heated building, heat kept around 40. Township is renting only a portion of the building, the farmer uses the other part of it. Farmer charges by the month for all 12 months, not just the winter months. Current rate he's charging is $600 a month, he wants to raise it to $700 per month. That's the monthly rate for all year, not just winter months. To me that seems high, but I don't have heat in a building so I don't know what that costs. What do others think about this. Township was going to put notice out to see if there were other places to store the equipment. Building a township shed is not out the question, but has not passed the past couple times it was brought up.

Are you saying that the equipment is not being kept in the building in the good weather periods (say May through Oct)? It seems like it might be high if that is the case. Otherwise-can you afford to build and maintain something for 600-700 per month? Lights, heat, insurance, maintenance. Put it up for bid and see what you get. Some folks might do it pretty reasonable "for the public good". Also, if it's gonna be kept in a non centralized location-that's another expense.
