E.Central MN | Yes, the consumer has the final say in what they eat. However they are manipulated quite often by people who use scary headlines to further their own agenda. And just like in politics, releasing negative sound bites does work because the consumer (like many voters) doesn't have much knowledge about farming in general and won't dig in to find out how much credibility the guy has. They will accept part of it at face value simply because of their fear of the unknown, and accept even more of it as fact because of the chorus of people screaming about the "dangers" of GMO crops. We just don't have the same multitudes of people screaming back at them that GMO crops are fine and pose no danger, it just doesn't sound scary enough to become headline news. | |
