The annode rod causes our water to STINK. It has to be removed all together before initial use. I agree on the plastic Marathon, they will LAST, at least ten years. I'd rather buy a new one every 10 years than drain it/clean it. I'll spend the time saved making enough $$ to buy another one so I don't have to drain and clean it.
