Subject: 12.7 detroit w/bad head gasket - rebuild vs. buying complete used motor

Normally I'd have the kit ordered already, but with so many of trucks on the road and for sale, I'm thinking I may be money ahead finding a recent rebuild engine or a whole wrecked truck. Rebuild kits are around $2500 then add head work and the 'might as wells' (cam-easy to replace, waterpump, oil pump, injectors) and I'm sure I can be nearing $5000. Since this is such a common motor it appears that there may be a pretty good selection of decent motors available pretty reasonable. I'm I thinking right about this? Btw 99 freightliner century, head gasket has been going for the last three years and this past year's longer hauls with manure finally did it in.
